ALTUM will assist the University of Granada in the elaboration of the Cost-Benefit Analysis for the IFMIF DONES project.

The objective of the IFMIF-DONES project is to build a neutron source to test, validate and qualify materials to be used in future fusion power plants as a DEMO (a prototype demonstration fusion reactor).

In order to apply for funding from the European Union, ALTUM will carry out a Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA).

IFMIF-DONES will be a facility from which not only fusion but also other fields of science and technology can benefit, such as those related to medical applications, nuclear physics, basic physics studies, industrial neutron applications and others.

IFMIF-DONES will also promote innovation and technological development in Andalusia and Spain.

The estimated construction and start-up budget for IFMIF-DONES is EUR 700 million. Once built and commissioned, the operating cost will be 50 million per year for the life of the facility. Spain has committed to finance 50 percent of the construction cost and 10 percent of the operating cost.
